Caterham and Marussia negotiated F1 merger

It has been revealed that during the off season Caterham and Marussia were seriously considering a merger. These two teams have been fighting for 10th place in the constructors since they both joined in 2010, this 10th position gives serious prize money.

Cyril Abiteboul (Caterham boss) 'There have been some discussions over the Christmas period but clearly I think we all know that business, we all know Formula 1, we know that it's quite a fluis and versatile environment.' 'We looked at that, we looked at whether it was making sense, it didn't make any sense, it didn't happen. End of story.'

Greame Lowdon of Marussia admitted to having talks with Caterham though he says 'I wasn't involved in them and as I understand it, the conclusion was unacceptable to our shareholders. So nothing happened.'

Kovalainen says Caterham's developmental progress in 2012 is not great.

Heikki Kovalainen's future may not be at Caterham in 2013 as the Finn admitted to being disappointed about the Formula One team's progress throughout this year.

As per usual the Finn was the fastest in Q1 beating his team mate Vitaly Petrov and both driver's from the other back marker teams (Marussia and HRT).

However Timo Glock in his non KERS powered Marussia was only six tenths off Heikki's time in Q1. Also Heikki was a massive 1.6 seconds off getting into the next part of qualifying.

Kovalainen stated:
'Our momentum has been not that great, others seem to have made better steps than us, as the  difference is surprisingly large'
His explained:
'The fact that Marussia is coming closer to us is abit of a worrying phenomenon. We should be well clear of them. The update from Silverstone has either not worked, or it has not brought us enough.'
